Because expanding outreach was a major motivation for the re-organization of the NNNC board and programs, NNNC has been searching for new ways to connect to the most important stakeholders of a local Neighborhood Network tech center. As you know, youth residents are usually one of the most boisterous, challenging, and influential populations that a Center aims to serve. Many resident service coordinators also know that these youth are at the heart of any grassroots change and community growth in our neighborhoods.

Speaking on behalf of the Neighborhood Networks National Consortium board as its new president, I hope this email finds you well and your center is flourishing while reaching your goals. We wanted a few moments of your time to share a few NNNC updates and get some quick feedback on your needs.

At its inception, the mission of the Neighborhood Networks National Consortium (NNNC) was to build the capacity and ensure the sustainability of both individual technology centers in HUD housing developments and local/regional consortia.

As you heard from NNNC Board President Thaddeus Miles, the Neighborhood Networks National Consortium is gathering information around a possible application for funding in the next round of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 available from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (US Dept. of Commerce) and the Rural Utility Service (US Dept. of Agriculture).

Geraghty and O'Bryant join NNNC's Advisory Board

NNNC is proud to announce the first two members of our new Advisory Board. Early in the fall of 2009, the NNNC executive board voted expand the support and reach of its leadership outside the ranks of existing Center staff and HUD representatives. The new Advisory Board is designed to include the input and resources of new allies, forging new partnerships with like-minded individuals and organizations in an effort to adapt NNNC’s mission the new national housing, economic and media-focused climate.

New Partnership for Capacity Building with Transmission Project

The NNNC board is in the beginning stages of a new, collaborative partnership with the Transmission Project, to develop new tools for building local center capacity using the power of our national network of technology centers and regional consortia. Together, NNNC will work with the Project to collect, create, and share both new tools and documentation of honest (not just "best") practices.
